\u201cHot Bath\u201d by Jade Imagine<\/h2>\n

Good, good grunge. Simple, funky, and ever so slightly distorted. Following a two-and-a-half year release drought, (Jade) imagine my surprise when this underrated Aussie band dropped out of seemingly thin air. Their earworm “Instinct That I Wanna Know\u201d was slithered through my playlists of yesteryear, and \u201cHot Bath\u201d maintains their unique edge that allured me so. A ripping chorus introduces us to the strong, melodic guitars that guide the lyrics to their diminished verse. A track I know would just absolutely tear live, and if not for being based halfway across the globe, you know my ass would be at a Jade Imagine show in an instant to hear this one. \u2014Sofia Giarrusso<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cGirls on the Internet\u201d by Elita<\/h2>\n

Elita has successfully followed up her last two singles \u201cMasturbating in a Coffin\u201d and \u201cKorean Karaoke Bar\u201d with \u201cGirls on the Internet.\u201d Elita\u2019s ghostly soft and almost gloomy voice perfectly captures the dual sides of obsession. Lyrics such as, \u201cI-I-I get obsessed \/ With girls on the internet,\u201d balance with the insatiable desire to become one with the physical form for which one yearns: \u201cI can’t forget \/ The girls on the internet \/ Blonde and brunettes \/ Those girls on the internet \/ Smoke cigarettes.\u201d Backed by a jumpy beat and forceful bass, \u201cGirls on the Internet\u201d drives home the frustration and longing in parasocial relationships online and will have you obsessively listening again and again. \u2014Heather Thorn<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cNeed You Again (feat. Say She She)\u201d by Neal Francis<\/h2>\n

Neal Francis strikes with the third single from his upcoming record Return To Zero<\/em>. \u201cNeed You Again\u201d is simply an earworm. Francis works with NYC-based, female-led trio Say She She to deliver a funky clash of indie madness. Choppy guitars, layered vocals, and Francis\u2019 signature keyboard mastery creates a tune that raises an adventurous eyebrow on first listen. When returning for a re-listen, Francis and the girls remind you why they \u201cNeed You Again\u201d with their airy indie sensibility. \u2014Sam Shipman<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cBlood on the Boulders\u201d by Squid<\/h2>\n

Fresh off of Squid\u2019s most recent release, Cowards<\/em>, \u201cBlood on the Boulders\u201d is one of the band\u2019s most intriguing songs. I\u2019ve been following Squid\u2019s discography since their previous album, O Monolith<\/em>, came out in which I fell in love with their strange lyrics and curious vocals. \u201cBlood on the Boulders\u201d is everything I appreciate about the band. It contains some of their greatest storytelling and a wonderfully strong bridge that builds the song into a continuation of excited chanting. Upon a few re-listens of Cowards<\/em>, I can say that this track stands out amongst the rest by far. \u2014Sophie Parrish<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cEPANO STO TRAPEZI\u201d by Marina Satti<\/h2>\n

I was introduced to Marina Satti last summer and quickly fell in love with her energetic sound. While I don\u2019t understand Greek, a quick translation from a friend proves that her flow is poetic and smart. \u201cEPANO STO TRAPEZI\u201d is an explosive track with a deep bass pulsing throughout. While Satti\u2019s most recent album P.O.P.<\/em> has plenty of dance tracks, this song kicks it up a notch with tons of synth drags and hits. Satti also continues to highlight traditional Greek musical elements as she\u2019s done throughout her music career. While this is a sick beat to dance to, Satti still infuses her lyrics with a powerful message. She isn\u2019t just upset that she spilled her drink at the club, she\u2019s upset at the state of the world and the controversy that was pushed on her during her time at Eurovision last year. Satti is a musical genius and more of the world needs to explore her discography.
