Static hangs upon the air like fallout in a deserted city. A slide guitar weeps notes that veer in and out of tune. feeo\u2019s voice emerges breathy and high, like a beam of light: \u201cYou keep the darkness from my door\/ And I watch the light keep on burning bright behind yours.\u201d The delicacy of her voice and spare accompaniment recalls early FKA Twigs. She and the guitar arabesque around each other, starting high then going low at turns. Dread Architect is a bullet in sound. It\u2019s an industrial cadence sawing through your brain throughout the track; splitting your membrane in two when it&#8217;s all over. I appreciate music that&#8217;s straight to the point, even better when I can feel lead vocalist Matt Stephenson\u2019s voice drill a hole in my temple (as it always does). After only being an edition to live performances for so long, its digital release comes in tandem with the project\u2019s newest album: PsychoWarrior: MG Ultra X coming out October 24th! &#8212; <strong>Salem Ross<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: Dread Architect\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"152\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/track\/1q2Aff3AzdGch6AlzFHOj2?si=e95e431ec4554afe&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;<strong>CRANK&#8221; by Slayyyter<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Slayyyter\u2019s made quite the comeback this year after spending the first half of the decade toiling in IYKYK-gay-guy-C-list fame. Her last record, 2023\u2019s \u201cStarfucker\u201d was excellent, but with these last few singles, Miss YYY is really upping the ante. On her new single \u201cCRANK,\u201d Slayyyter blows up her sound with her most abrasive single yet. Slayyyter\u2019s been known for talking her shit since 2019\u2019s \u201cDaddy AF,\u201d but \u201cCRANK\u201d is straight up deranged. Over grinding synths, guitars, and alarm sounds, Slayyyter lets off simultaneously hilarious and genius couplets like \u201cI get so gay off that tequila \/ I need some dick for Tuesday, let me go put out some feelers,\u201d or \u201cHe wanna fuck Slayyyter \/ Richard, we should link-later.\u201d Sheer brilliance. Essential.         &#8212; <strong>Bennett Himmel<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: CRANK\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"152\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/track\/5lFu1VR7s2EvuKAi6qxU0G?si=1d2e38b1512c449a&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cHot Shot (David Wrench 2025 Mix)&#8221; by Blondie <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>New Blondie in the year 2025? Two words: hell. yeah. Ever since Blondie\u2019s guitarist Chris Stein teased a new Blondie record later this year, I\u2019ve been agonizingly awaiting a new release from the group. Previously only available in Japan as a rare bonus track, \u201cHot Shot (David Wrench 2025 Mix)\u201d makes its worldwide debut as a single on Blondie\u2019s upcoming remastering of their 1999 album \u201cNo Exit,\u201d an expansion coming October 31st. \u201cHot Shot\u201d didn\u2019t disappoint my high hopes, at. all. Debbie Harry\u2019s vocals are addictive as they soften when she croons, \u201cI need a hot shooooot.\u201d Seriously: the way Harry\u2019s voice tilts to carry out \u201cshot\u201d requires at least two replays every time I listen. The disco is utterly uplifting for the track\u2019s entire duration and enough to have me salivating for Blondie\u2019s remastering of \u201cNo Exit\u201d coming out next week.\u00a0&#8212; <strong>Heather Thorn<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: Hot Shot - David Wrench 2025 Mix\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"152\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/track\/6W4Z5cIwAPe57XNo1VTvmE?si=f3c8c78dd5394231&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cStarburst\u201d by Danny Brown<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The most iconic voice in rap music is back with production to make your head spin. The deranged game soundtrack sounding beat, stops in it\u2019s tracks about 2 minutes in to start the next phase of the boss fight. The beat remixes into echoey gibberish, repeating the phrase \u201cI\u2019m gonna jump, hey-yo\u201d over and over till the end. Sounds weird right? Remember it\u2019s a Danny Brown song so he\u2019s also <em>rapping<\/em> over the pixelated goodness. While it\u2019s been a couple years since his record<em> Quaranta<\/em>, the start of starburst gets you right back to the Danny Brown vibe with a ridiculous (but hard) opening line. \u201cBetter shape up and get them squares up out ya circle.\u201d &#8212; <strong>Sam Shipman<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: Starburst\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"152\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/track\/5BwcOGxss3yjlEru57ZY4Y?si=78bfa917f82547a0&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cGood Luck, Good Night\u201d by Silvana Estrada<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I did not pick Geese. Even if that is \u2013 or <em>was<\/em> \u2013 the obvious answer, I\u2019ve talked and written about that band too much, and if it weren\u2019t for last Friday\u2019s round of releases, I almost certainly would have folded and you would be reading about Cameron Winter and his nonsensical warbles right now. But thank God that the best singer-songwriter in Latin America decided to drop, because now I can annoy everyone I know by talking about <em>Vendr\u00e1n Suaves Lluivas<\/em> instead. As if Estrada\u2019s immaculate 2022 record <em>Marchita<\/em> wasn\u2019t already one of the most tragically underdiscussed releases of the decade, it would be a travesty if <em>Suaves Lluvias <\/em>suffers a similar fate. It\u2019s pure Latin folk magic, full-stop, ten tracks and forty minutes of some of the lushest, most evocative singer-songwriter music this side of Nick Drake, and on \u201cGood Luck, Good Night,\u201d the Mexican singer-songwriter taps into a particularly potent vein of feeling. Over the course of the track\u2019s four minute runtime, Estrada slowly elbows forward the emotional and dynamic intensity of the song, the arrangement becoming more elaborate with each verse, her golden-voiced delivery increasing in desperation and intensity until \u201cGood Luck, Good Night\u201d finally reaches its dynamic and emotional boiling point. Estrada\u2019s poetic meditations on heartbreak and loss punctuate the song like an exclamation point, her final howl of \u201cgood luck, good night\u201d at the track&#8217;s apex \u2013 the only English lyric on the whole song \u2013 hitting like a gorgeous shock to the nervous system. &#8212; <strong>Lucca Swain<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: Good Luck, Good Night\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"152\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/track\/2AOawNs7D8TgKmlppSbGeb?si=8912110235ff48e8&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cA War With Time\u201d by Brandi Carlile<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The fourth track of ten on her upcoming album <em>Returning To Myself<\/em>, Brandi Carlile\u2019s \u201cA War With Time\u201d is a hauntingly vulnerable meditation on mortality. The song\u2019s minimalistic instrumental arrangement leaves room for Carlile\u2019s vocals to really resonate, supported the whole way through by her longtime collaborators, The Hanseroth Twins. A soft, catchy guitar riff is fingerpicked throughout the track, providing her with a strong undercurrent as she sings \u201cI could still reach out and touch you, and I wish I didn\u2019t know the things I know.\u201d Carlile\u2019s voice aches with honesty, breaking in just all right places to reveal the emotion behind the lyrics. &#8212; <strong>Emeline Chopin<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: A War With Time\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"152\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/track\/68BFqpvYMNQFtOw0C9zb2s?si=6bbd6635a769420b&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>&#8220;joey knows&#8221; by dance arts center<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I was doing my nightly scroll through my <a href=\"http:\/\/last.fm\">last.fm<\/a> recommendations and once again, I was blessed by the algorithmic gods which bestowed upon me a gem of production, danceability, and pure groove. From that initial flood of synth, dance arts center\u2019s \u201cjoey knows\u201d woke me up from a sleep-induced daze of exhaustion, grabbed me by my hands and pulled me out to the dance floor. The entire track maintains its momentum and situates itself between layers of airy, electronic synth elevated by one voice which is reminiscent of a younger, lighter Grimes. Its electronic dance influences are manifested in its seamless ability to create such an animated atmosphere. Suggestive of all of the best melodic elements of Magdalena Bay and even some Daft Punk, DAC are just beginning to establish themselves in the scene with their first album coming out on October 24th. All the listener has left to do is just dance! &#8212; <strong>Sophie Parrish<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: joey knows\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"152\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/track\/0m5RQJVdPvsZwx4DYfUg5o?si=d03f32040c1043f8&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>&#8220;8&#8221; by Eartheater<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s a rumbling in the earth. It\u2019s the sound of revolution. Not the kind that takes to the streets, but the kind eartheater moans as she descends from whatever planet she resides on before dropping down to eat the earth. She whispers a war cry of techno-spirituality and pseudo existentialism. \u201cHarness the yang of the big bang\u2026harness the yin of the central nervous system\u201d The alien we know as the electronic prodigy claims she\u2019s from Queens, yet speaks with assertive nonsensical wisdom of the secretary of the Galactic Federation of Light. This song feels like you are stepping into an upside down 7\/11 at the witching hour. The girl behind the counter has purple hair, green lipstick and holds a cosmically colored slushy with 3 arms. She tells you \u201cevery solution exists within infinity\u201d as you hand her a $15 dollar bill. She gives you your change in Canadian money and you leave through a worm hole questioning not <em>if<\/em> but <em>when<\/em> the revolution is coming.
